Crowns, bridges, veneers

Cosmetic porcelain dental crowns, bridges and veneers are used on teeth to restore, align, reshape and close gaps.

A cosmetic porcelain crown completely covers the tooth above the gum line and protects it. Porcelain dental crowns are made from high quality, durable porcelain fused to metal or ceramic materials. Full ceramic crowns are able to reflect light like natural teeth so these are an excellent choice for restoring front teeth. A crown is sometimes known as a ‘cap’. Crowns are an ideal restoration for teeth that have been broken, undergone a root canal therapy or have been weakened by decay or a very large filling. They can be made of porcelain or gold or a combination of these materials. Porcelain crowns are highly aesthetic, protect the tooth, are stronger than veneers and long lasting.

Cosmetic porcelain dental veneers are thin, custom made porcelain shells, that are fused to the front surface of the tooth. Dental veneers can be used to cover discoloured teeth, close gaps between teeth, repair chipped or fractured teeth, or just to create a beautiful smile. Veneers are used more commonly when the existing tooth is strong and intact whereas a crown is used when the tooth is weakened e.g. after a large filling or root canal treatment. The best way to describe the difference is a veneer covers only the visible area of the tooth to preserve as much natural tooth as possible whereas a crown wraps around and covers the entire tooth to hold it all together. Dental veneers are made from high quality, durable porcelain. Veneers are highly aesthetic, however they are not as strong as porcelain crowns and are therefore not as long-lasting.

A cosmetic porcelain dental bridge is used to restore a missing tooth or teeth. It is an alternative to a removable, partial denture. A porcelain bridge is used when there is one tooth missing or when missing teeth are on one side of the jaw. Porcelain bridges are fixed, non-removable restorations. A dental bridge is fixed to one or more natural teeth either side of each ‘gap’. A dental bridge can allow you to forget that you have a missing tooth/ teeth and the result is aesthetic and long-lasting. Cosmetic porcelain dental bridges are made from high quality, durable  porcelain fused to metal or ceramic materials. Porcelain bridges are a highly aesthetic alternative to partial dentures and a long-lasting solution.
